About Pinny Food Center

Founders Bob and Verna Hornacek's first store was "Bob's IGA" in Alma, Michigan. The small 3,000 square foot store with two checkouts opened in 1958. It featured great customer service, an excellent fresh meat department and fun money saving promotional events that always had the town talking. "Bob's IGA" even brought a circus into their parking lot. Big Top fun and buys!

The most talked about promotion was a ham sandwich and orange drink lunch for $.10! The business grew and in 1962 they sold the store to move to Flint, MI where they opened a new larger store. The new 7,000 square foot store "Beecher Plaza IGA" became a true family business. Sons Marty (8) and Tom (6) started working and learning the grocery business from the ground up.

Serving customers, delivering great values, excellent fresh meat and produce along with fun promotional events again grew the business. In 1971 they sold "Beecher Plaza IGA" with the opportunity to move north to Pinconning, MI and open a new larger store.

The new 14,000 square foot store "Pinny Food Center" continued a new family affair over the years. New additions included a full service "Do It Best" hardware brought it to its current 50,000 square footage.

We love finding great buys, overstocks, liquidations or anything that would bring value to our customers and move product. Our many truckload sales, tent sales and special events brought about the need for a larger warehouse and sales area with room to grow. Hence the birth of "Northwoods Wholesale Outlet" in 1999 our sister store in Pinconning.

Pinny Food Center today features a pharmacy, full service Do It Best Hardware, extensive fresh produce department, expanded fine wine, deli, bakery, fresh meat department, extensive liquor department, lots of in store Pinny Power Buys and the Hometown service that you deserve.
